Editor's Note -- September 20, 2010

Sometimes people show up in one’s life to serve a purpose. If you’re lucky, they remain in your life; and if you’re really really lucky they become your friends.

This year I was blessed with many such people, but I need much more than this space to list them all. So, I’ll just mention this handful in order of appearance in my life: Dustin Soper, Ayman Itani, Sana Tawileh, Samer Chehab, and Ibrahim Lahoud. From strangers to friends thanks to Facebook and Twitter!

Sometimes a "thank you" humbles people and makes them realize that Good is still there and it needs a little effort to find. It's amazing how, with you, that good found me without even seeking it. We're all here for you O. After all, you were always there for us and carried our voices to the highest circles. We're proud.

Octavia,

I am a great believer in Synchronicity. I truly believe that some people come into our lives and some situations happen for a specific reason. From sixty different interactions in a day, one may be of significance. Sometimes we don't recognise them & other times these instances are crystal clear.

I joined Twitter in early 2009 with the intention of interacting with some people who were making something of their lives, who were having of a global impact, and making the misunderstood understandable. The first thing I did was follow lots of CNN people. Naturally you were one of them. As a moderate Muslim (but mostly a spiritual person) I felt a connection to you. You saw things not as they appeared, but you scratched the surface. You, Octavia demonstrated everyday that sometimes things were not black and white but a technicolour of detail. You broke down complex stories and simplified them without compromising the facts.

You have never ever imposed your views, your opinions, dismay or disgust of any issue on us via Twitter - you have shared your views. You enriched my knowledge of the Middle East & the Arab culture. You really are an inspiration to all people. As a woman from a different cultural background, you have shown that dreams are achievable. I hope to one day meet you for coffee, chat and giggle, but until then I'll be seeing you on Twitter.

Thank you for this awesome website.

Kind Regards
Ayse Veli

Octavia,

I ran across your site which was retweeted by someone I follow today. Just yesterday I was struck by the power of synchronicity that is enabled by a thoughtful, intentional use of Twitter. I'm sure it's no accident that this post was presented to me today while in thoughtful repose at my feed. I look forward to learning more from you and watching your leadership in this important realm.

Thanks for being here at this time for me.

Warm regards,

Mary
